There are numerous causes to this condition including hectic lifestyles, depression or mood trouble, physical ailments and even unusual working schedules or shift labor.

It can provide an aid in falling asleep more quickly and staying asleep through the night. If you suffer from occasional sleep troubles this could be a huge way to help turn your suffering around.

If you do suffer from a severe or chronic sleep deprivation you should seek out the help of a medical professional. You cannot be truly healthy if you are not getting the rest that your body and mind both crave.

When it comes to essential oil recipes for sleeping there are several ways you can intake the oils. The most popular methods are include below:

These methods are very diverse, but all deliver the potent healing abilities of essential oils. Play around to find what fits your needs and lifestyle the best.

Essential Oils for Sleep

There are numerous blends that can be created as recipes that can help you unwind at night. Below are the top oils you should have on hand to create a blend for sleep aids. There are variances among the oil recipes, but these are the top essentials you should own. Essential oils can be expensive when you are buying a quality essence. Stock up slowly to build your collection rather than sacrificing quality and buying cheaper or inferior oils.

Lavender

It is amazing how versatile lavender can be. Due to its stress reduction properties it is very beneficial as an essential oil to aid in sleep. It is not a coincidence that this oil is frequently used for massage relaxation It is very beneficial.

Vetiver

Vetiver essential oil is distilled from the roots of the plant. It is rich and earthy smelling. Since it is rather heavy you may want to cut it with such as lavender or Roman Chamomile, which are milder in fragrance. A blend is a better bet here if using this oil is new to you.

Roman Chamomile

Roman Chamomile essential oil is known for is calming, soothing, and relaxing properties. It has a light, floral scent and is wonderful for creating a peaceful atmosphere in your bedroom. This oil could be an excellent candidate for a spray recipe or a diffuser.

Ylang Ylang

Ylang ylang is a wonderful choice if you are looking to improve the quality of your sleep. It is very floral and smells a bit fruity (at least to me).

Bergamot

Most citrus oils (like grapefruit or wild orange) tend to have a bit of a stimulating effect, but bergamot is different. It is a common ingredient in essential oil blends.

Sandalwood

This is rich and woodsy oil. is on the pricier side, but a little bit goes a long way. It is important to view purchasing your oils as building up a collection. It is more than fine to buy them one at a time.

Marjoram

Marjoram essential oil wonderful for soothing muscles and joints, but it is also excellent in creating peaceful sleep.

Recipes for Essential Oil Blends

Below is a contemplation of essential oil recipes for sleep from various websites.

This easy to follow blend is from Sarah, the author behind abeachcottage.com

This is a little ‘recipe’ I have been using in the evening, in the bath and by diffusing it in the bedroom, it’s really, really helped…

Aromatherapy Oils for Sleep

Mix a few drops of each

Lavender

Patchouli

Yang ylang

Roman chamomile

Marjoram

(If you can’t afford to buy 5 just go the lavender and add one of the others to it – smell first to see what you like, I love ylang ylang)

These tried and proven recipes from sedonaaromatherapie.com appear to be super easy to assemble:

Aromatherapy Blend #1 for Insomnia

You will need:

  • 2 oz. empty bottle with spritzer fitting
  • 2 oz. distilled water
  • 15 drops of lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)essential oil
  • 10 drops of Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile)essential oil.

Mix all of your ingredients together in the bottle and spray a little on your pillow before you go to sleep at night!

Aromatherapy Blend #2 for Insomnia

You will need:

  • 8 drops of benzoin (Styrax benzoin) resinoid.

Mix all of your ingredients together in the bottle and spray a little on your pillow before you got to sleep at night! Note, benzoin is a sticky, thick resinoid, so be careful it doesn’t clog up your spritzer fitting.

Aromatherapy Blend #3 for Insomnia

You will need:

  • an aromatherapy diffuser

This recipe from aromahead.com is a wonderful way to blend your oils for use. It is amazingly versatile in that it can be administered in so many ways.

1 drop Neroli essential oil

3 drops Lavendar essential oil

1 drop Orange essential oil

2 oz. (56 gm) pink Himalayan salt

This recipe is just the right amount for one bath, but you can easily make a large amount and store in a glass jar for future baths.

If you don’t like to take baths or don’t have a bath rub this same blend can be used in 2 oz. (56 gm) of lotion and applied to your back and shoulders right before bed. Another idea is to use the same recipe (minus the salt) in a spray bottle of water for your linens.

Savorylotus.com offers this wonderful recipe blend to aid in sleep and relaxation.

Sleepy Time Essential Oil Blend

12 drops Orange

8 drops Lavender

4 drops Cedarwood

3 drops Valerian

2 drops Roman Chamomile

Directions:

Mix oils in a clean, glass essential oil bottle.  Use in diffuser, inhale, topically, or in a warm bath mixed with Epsom salt.

There are so many ways to blend and find the right recipe for your particular needs. There is a great variety in administration options depending on your personal preference. You do not have to do anything that might not naturally be well suited for your lifestyle.

Conclusion

Sometimes finding the best oil for you just takes a little bit of trial and error. Combining essential oils into recipes will become effortless once you figure out the ideal combination for your particular needs. Assemble you kit of oils and find a quiet place in your home where you can relax and experiment with these blends.

These recipes and essential oil combinations represent the best available for better quality sleep. While there are many brands of essential oil, only a few are of therapeutic grade. If an oil is not of therapeutic grade it typically has inferior ingredients to dilute it, or even synthetic ingredients. The price of an oil is determined by which parts of the plant are used, the rarity and difficulty of growing the plant, the extraction method used, the packaging, and whether or not the plant is grown organically. Keep these guidelines in mind when you are deciding whether to make a purchase.

Help is within reach through these various essential oil blends. Since every person is different, an oil that might send one person straight to a dream filled slumber, might not do a thing for someone else.
